ABOUT ME

You're probably wondering what makes me different than other yoga teachers, so here's some information about me, my philosophy and how I teach.

I’m practical. I believe in goal setting and working skillfully toward those goals.

There is an idea in yoga that all you need to do is ‘practice and all will come’. That may be true if you never define what the ‘all’ part is and are happy with whatever comes your way. And that may be true if you are happy practicing the same things over and over and never expecting a different result. Instead, I look at yoga as a continuous source of creative solutions to help attain specific goals.

When you succeed at something you skillfully worked to attain, the victory is ever so sweet. And the journey towards that success opens you up to your brightest most disciplined self.

That’s the philosophy I teach: “define your goals, skillfully work through them and your best self will come shining through.”

I teach good alignment with humor, inspiration and creative solutions to build basic or dream poses.

I teach by breaking down difficult or basic poses into achievable pieces I call Skill Builders.  Modifying poses and actions of poses is like working with all the pieces of a pose.   You get the chance to appreciate each part, learn how it fits with the others and understand how it is helping your body.   It’s a joyful process of self-discovery.  When you feel good about what you’re doing, you want to recreate that joy, you want to build on that good thing and the next thing you know you are on to your next great accomplishment.

I teach from a standpoint of safety first. When working through challenging poses, fear is the first thing to hold you back. And so fear is the first thing I try to mitigate with a Skill Builder, a prop, a different approach – whatever is necessary so the ‘scary’ is taken out.  You can’t learn if you’re afraid.  Your breakthroughs will come after you’ve met fear with skill and curiosity.

I’ve worked up, down, through and around poses for 27+ years (E-RYT 500 YACEP certified). During that time I’ve called on different disciplines to augment and enhance the practice. Now I’ve got lots of tools and a keen eye to help you have fun and to find your best alignment.

I teach to help you feel better in your body.  I teach to help you move and breathe more freely.  Maybe you want to learn to do a pose with more strength or ease.  Maybe you want to quiet you mind or breathe more freely.  Perhaps you’d like your emotions to settle and to feel less stressed.  Whatever your reason or goals for practicing yoga, I have the experience to help you succeed.
